Writing with Joy

“The weird path towards what you have come to know, which is called thinking, which is what writing is…” – Ross Gay, The Book of Delights, “Writing By Hand”

I begin with joy. Writing can be a joyful act, as poet and delight-finder Ross Gay reminds us. Where, then, can we integrate joy into our writing process?

Doing so means understanding our writing process – part of that “weird path” of thinking for which writing is the artifact we leave behind.

I want all writers to experience the joy that comes from seeing our minds at work on the page.

Thomas Gainsborough “Elizabeth and Mary Linley” (c. 1771-2)
